Overview

The Planner Head is a strategic leadership role responsible for team management, operational efficiency, process excellence, and client advisory outcomes. This position leads the planning function, mentors emerging talent, drives process improvements, and contributes to firm revenue growth and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Team & Operations

  • Lead daily operations of the planning team, ensuring adherence to TAT (turnaround time) guidelines, process standards, and quality benchmarks
  • Allocate workload based on performance metrics and skill development needs, not preference
  • Establish and enforce accountability standards; conduct monthly performance reviews with individual planners
  • Create and maintain backup coverage for all critical functions to ensure business continuity
  • Implement workload balancing strategies to optimize team capacity and reduce bottlenecks

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Mentor at least 2 planners on decision-making frameworks, client advisory skills, and operational efficiency
  • Establish and strengthen the mentor–mentee framework with sub-reporting levels based on experience (<6 months, 6–12 months, >1 yr)
  • Identify and develop next-line leaders within the team
  • Lead client meetings independently; provide high-quality reporting and insights to senior management
  • Demonstrate independent resolution of at least 2 major operational issues per quarter

Client & Revenue

  • Ensure zero missed client follow-ups and maintain 95%+ client satisfaction metrics
  • Track client conversion rates by planner and provide insights to improve conversion pipelines
  • Conduct revenue-per-client analysis and identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities
  • Participate in at least 2 client meetings independently (by Q3) with documented feedback
  • Identify revenue generation possibilities and growth opportunities within the planning function

Performance & Reporting

  • Define and monitor measurable performance targets for self and team (TAT %, error rate, task completion rate, client conversion rate)
  • Provide monthly performance reports to reporting manager highlighting progress, roadblocks, and recommendations
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews and present performance analysis to senior management
  • Ensure team achieves monthly performance targets with 90%+ consistency
  • Submit quarterly improvement proposals and track implementation success

Knowledge & Development

  • Attend training sessions and professional development programs to strengthen personal expertise
  • Apply learnings from training programs to team operations and client advisory
  • Create and share knowledge assets with the team (process guides, decision frameworks, case studies)
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes (SEBI, AMFI, tax law changes) relevant to client advisory
  • Build institutional knowledge that reduces team dependency on senior management

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in financial planning, advisory, or wealth management
  • Proven track record of team leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Strong knowledge of Indian tax law, NRI taxation, investment regulations (SEBI, mutual funds)
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to explain complex financial concepts
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, data analysis, and reporting tools
  • Understanding of TAT management and process optimization
  • Ability to mentor and develop team members

Preferred

  • Certification: CFP (Certified Financial Planner), NISM XA AND XB
  • 7+ years of experience in financial advisory with multi-team leadership
  • Experience with GIFT City investment structures or NRI-specific advisory products
  • Exposure to cross-border taxation and estate planning
  • Track record of process improvement or operational excellence initiatives
  • Experience with client relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Knowledge of AMFI and SEBI compliance requirements
